Welcome to my little corner of the internet

Design and Branding have always come naturally to me. Even as a child, I had an innate curiosity for how brands met their audience through visuals. My ideas come fast and plentiful and there are too many to put to use for just myself, I choose to share this gift with others.

To me, all ideas can become reality, with the right amount of creativity and flexibility.

I grew up on a secluded island off the West Coast of British Columbia, with no electricity or cars. I wouldn't have had it any other way. Inspiration always surrounded me; beach-combing, hiking, stargazing and swimming in the sea. Mother nature played just as big of a part raising me as my parents did. When we would visit Vancouver I would swoon over all the shops downtown, the billboards, the architecture and load up on fashion magazines and fabric to keep me inspired back on the island.

My love of art was realized early on, my father, who worked in the art industry was able to provide me with the tools I needed to grow as an artist as well as exposure to talented creatives I would otherwise have never had. I am a designer to my core, and have been since I can remember. Blend this with a fascination with technology and becoming a graĥic designer happened organically. I met my husband during my last year of high school, and I followed him to Alberta 16 years ago. I became a graphic designer in 2008 and I worked in house at a publishing firm until I got pregnant with my first child. After having my son, and daughter I made the switch to freelance and never looked back. Over the years I have continued my specialized training in sustainability, consumer psychology and digital marketing all while growing my team to be able to sustain our ever-growing clientele.

the Joy of Cultivating Purpose

I never liked the idea of working for a boss. I have entrepreneurship in my blood, I have never seen a lineage so full of different business owners! I worked at a design studio before getting pregnant, and after my son was born, decided I was never going back. I don’t know if anyone could have paid me enough to not be home with him, it was where I felt I needed to be. My husband bought me a computer, and away I went. I started my own remote online website design business 16 years ago, right at the time everyone started getting websites. This allowed me to stay at home with my babies. Each year as they grew, so did my business. As they needed me less, my clients needed me more. And the timing all worked out beautifully. I am so happy with the path I chose.

I hadn't expected that my passion for web design would pale in comparison to the immense love I've discovered for branding. Specifically birthing brands with cool people. This work joy, while also getting all the blissful moments with my family: I feel like I won the lottery.

I want to inspire my kids to go after their dreams and find their purpose. A purpose to me is cultivating the calling you have in service of others. I want to show my kids the joy I get when I am fulfilling my calling.

I find my job incredibly rewarding because of the founders I get to help. I am a conduit to helping other people pursue their purpose, like a purpose amplifier!!! I live for the startup phase of businesses. The energy just flows. Taking the business idea and giving it a visual identity, creating the customers e-shopping experience, the passion, focus and collective desire for this brand to excel, it truly is so much fun for me. I get to be present during the most magical time in a “ideas” life: when it becomes real.

What is the meaning of 'Volerra'?

VOL’AIR’AH

I coined the word 'Volerra' during a period of profound grief. In that vulnerable space, my heart opened, and I found myself living life with my soul exposed, connected yet longing to soar freely. Derived from the French word 'voler,' meaning 'to fly,' and 'a' symbolizing movement, Volerra encapsulates the concept of embracing an open heart and allowing the soul to guide us effortlessly. It's about surrendering to the gentle pull of our soul, experiencing a weightless freedom akin to flight.

Volerra represents both a direction and a philosophy—a commitment to following our hearts with grace and ease. My design approach is intuitive, and I selectively collaborate with clients who align with this ethos. Harmony and ease are the foundation of Volerra Creative, where creativity is celebrated as the soul's playful expression, and I wholeheartedly embrace its guidance.

I partner exclusively with individuals who are deeply passionate about their brands, guided by unwavering integrity and fueled by their heartfelt convictions.
